Bust of Argentari

"A funny thing happened on the way to the bank...."

Argentari Denarius  (1BC to 99AD) was an ancient Roman philosopher who lost his parents in the original Y0K disaster.  He went on to think deep thoughts about how to syndicate funding for aqueducts.

And to teach money lenders and assorted denarius keepers their trade by telling funny stories (known as "Fablicusses")*.

A funny thing happened on the way to the bank...

The Project

Argentari knows that funny things happen in banking.

Even if most people think bankers aren't funny.

This is because banking affects so many aspects of life and business.    And life is, let's face it, pretty funny sometimes.

Also young bankers need to know their history.  Financial crisis?  Check.  Natural disasters?  Check.  Plague?  Check.  Fraud?  Multiple Cheques.  Project over budget?  Big Cheque.

Been there, done that.

And let's face it, experienced bankers aren't growing on trees these days.  If anything, they're falling out of them.  Just ask Keith Richards.

The purpose of this site is to help by collecting funny stories about banks, bankers, and the people they deal with.  And to give you something to do once you've finished watching The Tiger King on Netflix.

If you are a banker (go on, admit it!) you can help by sharing your story.  In the blog section below are some topics to prompt your memory.  You can be anonymous,  but be kind.

Feel free to share your story in the comments section or email your story to Argentari directly at story@argentari.org

If you can't be bothered to write, you can record a voice message on your phone and email it in.

The best stories will be published in book called, "A Funny thing happened to me on the way to the bank".

So think creatively, and share some laughs.  Help a young banker learn why our industry is both a fun and meaningful career to aspire to.
